Kita-Nashiro Beach
北名城ビーチ26°07′ N 127°40′ EBeach
Kita-Nashiro Beach is a shallow natural beach on Itoman's west coast, reached by a farm road off Route 331, that Itoman recommends for its sunsets and night skies.
Itoman describes Kita-Nashiro as a natural beach where you come off Route 331, follow a farm road through the fields and find a long, shallow sweep of sea. Offshore to the north sits Eejina, an uninhabited islet. In the evening the sun goes down over the water, and the city's page recommends staying on for the stars.
Itoman lists nothing in the way of facilities, so bring what you need and swim only when the sea is calm. It makes a good last stop on an evening ride back up the west coast toward Naha.
Before you swim
- Habu-kurage box jellyfish appear from May to October; Okinawa nets many swimming beaches from June to October against them, and vinegar poured on a sting before removing tentacles is the standard first aid.
- No nets or lifeguards; this is a natural beach and you swim at your own risk.
December to March
The beach faces west over the East China Sea, which makes it a winter sunset walk.
