Churasun sits on the reclaimed land of Toyosaki, south of Senaga-jima, and it is the nearest full-service beach to the airport. The 700 m of sand come with a net against box jellyfish, lifeguards, showers and lockers, plus courts for beach soccer and volleyball and a big barbecue area. OpenStreetMap lists it as Orion ECO Churasun Beach.
It suits families and a first swim off the plane. The official site posts closures as they happen, as on 4 September 2026 when the net came out for a typhoon and swimming stopped until it went back.
Before you swim
- Habu-kurage box jellyfish appear from May to October; Okinawa nets many swimming beaches from June to October against them, and vinegar poured on a sting before removing tentacles is the standard first aid.
- Swim only inside the designated area; the rest of the shore is closed to swimmers.
- Personal snorkelling gear, jet skis and other private marine equipment are banned on site.
- The jellyfish net comes out when a typhoon approaches and the beach closes to swimmers until it goes back.
December to March
The swimming hours on the official site cover April to October, so treat winter as a beach park for walking and picnics. The park itself opens 6:00–22:00 and parking drops to ¥100 an hour from November to April.
