Route 215 ends at Shirahama, 54 km after it leaves Haemida, and the village sits around a small harbour looking into Funauki Bay. Taketomi Town counted 126 people here at the end of August 2026, with Sonai, one of the island's few old villages, and Hoshidate a few kilometres back along the road. The meridian of 123° 45′ 6.789″ east passes through, and the village has a monument to the run of digits.
Funauki, on the far side of the bay, has no road at all, and its 44 residents and its visitors cross on the Funauki Kaiun boat from Shirahama harbour. From Funauki port it is about a ten-minute walk to Ida-no-hama, one of the island's quietest beaches, and Boo no Ie serves wild boar near the jetty.
Anei Kanko used to run a bus from Uehara port to Shirahama to meet its boats, and its winter 2026/27 timetable says that bus ended on 31 May 2026, so plan a car, a bike or the Iriomote Kotsu bus to reach the end of the road.

By boat. Funauki has no road, so you take the Funauki Kaiun boat from Shirahama harbour at the end of Route 215, a crossing of about 10 minutes.
Is there still a ferry company bus from Uehara to Shirahama?
No. Anei Kanko's winter 2026/27 timetable says its Uehara–Shirahama connecting bus ended on 31 May 2026. The Iriomote Kotsu route bus still runs to Shirahama.
