Routed over OpenStreetMap with BRouter fastbike-asia-pacific, measured against AWS Terrarium z13 (2026-10-09). The waypoints run clockwise.
Yoron is a flat coral terrace 23.7 km round its coast, and the tourism association reckons a car circles it in about an hour. Kagoshima Prefectural Route 623 makes an inner ring around the island, and our loop follows its northern half from Chabana before dropping to the east coast at Oganeku. By our route data it's 14.7 km with 134 m of climbing.
Yurigahama is a sandbar off Oganeku that rises from the sea at low tide, and the boats out to it leave from the beach beside Muuru Cafe. South from there the road passes Akasaki and Shima no Eki Kurumado before the ring road turns west and climbs gently toward the castle ruins on the island's high ground.
Coming back into Chabana, the ring road drops toward the north-west coast and the village's only traffic light. Kaigan-dori near the beach does lunch, and Meedafu's Yui opens early enough for coffee before you start.
Worth knowing
- Yurigahama shows only on the right tides, so ask the boat operators at Oganeku when to go.
- Rent with delivery and collection; Yoron Rent-a-Car brings e-bikes to your inn for a small extra charge.
- Do the loop in the morning and take the boat to Yurigahama at low tide in the afternoon.
Ride safely
- The tourism association warns of few signs and blind corners on Yoron's narrow roads; slow down at junctions in the cane.
- Watch for elderly drivers and children on the village roads.
- There are no buses or taxis at the airport or the port, so arrange bike delivery or a pick-up with the rental company.
