Makishi is where Naha shops for food. The Daiichi Makishi Public Market, rebuilt in 2023, sells fish and meat downstairs and cooks it upstairs, and the covered arcades around it run for blocks. The set-meal diner Hanagasa Shokudo and Pork Tamago Onigiri's original counter both sit within a few minutes of the market.
Tasokare opens at 8:30 and T&M Coffee at 8:00 on weekends, so Makishi makes a good meeting point before a ride. The streets are narrow and Ukishima-dori by the market runs one way, so walk the bike through the arcades.
